Sustainable Development – Environmental Certifications and Compac’s commitment

Every day there are reports about the serious environmental consequences caused by climate change, caused directly by the damage done by man and by the improper use of the planet’s natural resources.

A large part of the population is becoming aware of this very important issue, conscious of the fact that our future is directly dependent on our actions. The theme of “Sustainable Development” has become a public and known concept. Each, from individuals to institutions and large and small companies, has begun to make its own contribution and to feel responsible for the common good. Various business realities have placed the respect for the environment in a privileged position, positioning themselves in the green marketing category, the goal of these companies is to give life to products or services that have a low environmental impact and can at the same time give a real benefit to the well-being of the planet.

In order to transmit our environmental sensitivity and our commitment to protecting the environment, we turned to the instrument of

– Environmental Process and Product Certifications.

All forms of environmental certification are voluntary (regardless of whether they are activities or products / services) and rely on standardization systems, on the obligation to resort to independent, impartial and accredited third parties to request a verification of compliance and for this they are synonymous with guarantee and seriousness.

Get a certification:

• allows you to have a passport (common in all languages and around the world);
• control and communicate their environmental commitment, while allowing a comparison between different realities;
• provide credibility and guarantees to customers and all interested parties;
• communicate to the market, in a clear and transparent way, the environmental impacts of a product or service;

So they are an important source of information for customers, who can buy products and services that have an added value in their commitment to greater environmental sustainability.

All this has also created totally opposite realities, such as:

• self-declarations, where a company defines itself as eco-friendly or describes its “bio” or “natural” product without having the assessment of a third party that can guarantee compliance with these characteristics;
• the so-called “green washing”, facade operations which, based on tendentious advertising campaigns, seek to attribute environmental aspects to the normal corporate activity despite the fact that there are no real conditions for doing so.

What are the environmental certifications?

Certifications are of two types: process and product.

The process certifications have the task of certifying the realization of positive actions and improving the environment during the company management process, allowing to analyze and control the environmental performance of the same with the aim of reducing the environmental impacts related to the own activities.

The product certifications instead refer to the characteristics of an article, considering its entire life cycle, from the extraction of the raw materials to make it up to the management of the waste that will be produced at the end of its life.

Compac’s commitment

Compac has achieved:

• ISO 14001:2004, Certification, which establishes the requirements of an Environmental Management System and demonstrates that the Company has an adequate management system to monitor the environmental impacts of its activity and seeks to improve it.

At the same time Compac has developed and certified the following products:

THERMOSEALABLE PLA CONTAINERS

Biodegradable and compostable, they comply with the criteria of

• TÜV AUSTRIA OK COMPOST INDUSTRIAL certification.

Suitable for packaging food products to be consumed cold, they can be used from + 0 ° C to + 40 ° C, and have the following characteristics:

• excellent transparency;
• rigidity and robustness;
• resistance to oils and fats;
• low oxygen barrier (ideal for packaging red meat and fruit and vegetables).

THERMOSEALABLE CARDBOARD+PLA (CA+PLA) CONTAINERS

Conform to the criteria of the FSC® Certification System which ensures that raw materials, such as pure cellulose fiber, come from forests that are managed correctly and responsibly, confirming Compac’s environmental and social compliance.

Biodegradable and compostable, they comply with the criteria of

• TÜV AUSTRIA OK COMPOST INDUSTRIAL certification.

Recyclable with the Paper – ATICELCA® 501 certificates – level A.

Suitable for packaging food products to be heated, cooked (after sealing). They can be used in a traditional oven up to + 200 ° C for 30 minutes, and in a microwave oven up to 800W for 5 minutes. They are suitable to be used for cooking by the consumer only after the heat welding of the package with a READY-TO-COOK food in the microwave and traditional oven up to +200 ° C for 60 minutes. Food products packed in CA + PLA can be frozen up to – 40 ° C.

These containers have the following characteristics:

• the characteristics of the food product are enhanced for its best presentation;
• instructions for use and disposal on the side walls and bottom;
• withstand temperatures down to -40 ° C without any possibility of breakage;
• they can be taken from the freezer, placed directly in a traditional oven or microwave, until optimal food heating / cooking is obtained;
• they can be considered a natural insulator, as they keep the food warm longer out of the oven, from the freezer to the oven and then on the table;
• maintaining the original shape even after thermal stresses.

THERMOSEALABLE FILM REELS IN PLA (TBFN)

Biodegradable and compostable, they comply with the criteria of

• TÜV AUSTRIA OK COMPOST INDUSTRIAL certification.

Suitable for packaging cold food products, they can be used from + 0 ° C to + 40 ° C, and have the following characteristics:

• excellent transparency;
• resistance to oils and fats;
• low oxygen barrier (ideal for the packaging of red meat and fruit and vegetables);
• low barrier to water vapor (naturally anti-fog).

THERMOSEALABLE FILM REELS IN BIOPOLYMER (TADFN)

Biodegradable and compostable, they comply with the criteria of

• TÜV AUSTRIA OK COMPOST INDUSTRIAL certification.

Suitable for packaging cold and hot food products. They have the following features:

• resistance to oils and fats;
• high oxygen barrier;
• use in freezer up to -40 ° C;
• high temperature applications up to + 100 ° C.
